Planlined

Benefit analysis software, formerly BART. Parses whatever the carrier sent into one comparison, models contributions and scenarios, and exports the proposal book and employee guide.

For: benefits brokers, brokerage teams and GA service teams preparing proposals from received carrier documents. GA access and branding setup need confirmation.

Benefitter

A UnitedHealthcare-owned platform where brokers quote, underwrite and enroll small-business group health and ancillary coverage from preloaded carrier plans and rates.

For: small-group agents and brokers, with their producers, assistants and back-office staff, who want quoting to run straight into underwriting and enrollment.

Capabilities, one row each.

Planlined’s “Yes” entries describe documented capabilities, not a claim that every carrier, file or workflow has been independently tested. Extraction can need corrections or manual entry. Choose Benefitter when

  • You quote small groups in markets where its preloaded carrier plans and rates cover your carriers, and you would rather not collect PDFs at all.
  • You want quoting, electronic underwriting questionnaires, e-signatures and employee enrollment in one free tool, and a carrier-owned platform suits your book.

Choose Planlined when

  • You want to test Benefitter PDF or spreadsheet exports beside your other carrier quotes in one reviewed case. This is document upload, not a native integration; extraction can require corrections or manual entry.
  • Your quotes arrive as carrier PDFs, SBCs, rate sheets or invoices, including carriers and lines a preloaded catalog does not hold, and you want them parsed into one reviewed comparison.
  • You want a carrier-neutral tool with a proposal book, an employee benefit guide, what-if scenarios and invoice reconciliation from the same case.
  • Price: $75 per month or $744 per year with a free trial; Benefitter is free to most brokers but owned by UnitedHealthcare.

Frequently asked

Questions about switching.

Who owns Benefitter?
UnitedHealthcare. Benefitter's own homepage, features, about and FAQ pages describe it as a wholly owned subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare. Planlined is independent proposal software and is not owned by any carrier.
Does Benefitter parse carrier PDFs?
Not according to its public pages. Benefitter quotes from preloaded carrier plans and illustrative rates, with manual plan entry for anything missing. Planlined starts from the carrier documents you were sent and parses them into a comparison you review.
Can I use Benefitter and Planlined together?
You can test a Benefitter PDF or spreadsheet export through Planlined's document-upload workflow beside your other carrier quotes. This is not a native integration, and the published worked examples do not verify a Benefitter-specific import. Check plan names, rates, benefits and source-page links against the export; corrections or manual entry may be needed before contribution modeling or client delivery.
